SC Uplet has been discontinued

SC Uplet version 1.0 was released on Monday, November 12, 2012 with a blog post following a few days later. I made many changes since then, with the last release at the end of last year.

Also around the end of last year I started seeing some connection issues with SoundCloud. If poetic writing is your thing you could, all in hindsight of course, call this the beginning of the end. While I haven’t done much investigation I have a reasonable picture of what’s going on. And with that in mind, today marks the end of the SC Uplet project. Not because the issue can’t be fixed, but because I haven’t used SoundCloud myself in 3 years and priorities have shifted.

There are no interesting stats about the number of megabytes uploaded with this utility. But I have heard from numerous people who enjoyed using SC Uplet. It was also a fun project for me. Thank you for those 4 years!

SC Uplet v1.12 released, recommended update

A new version of SC Uplet is now available. This is a minor but strongly recommended update. It contains changes to comply with some changes SoundCloud made to the way sets are retrieved. As a bonus, if you have many sets retrieving them should be a bit faster now. Some other issues were also addressed.

There are some open problems with this version that probably require SoundCloud’s attention to be resolved. When sharing to social media, the track is uploaded correctly but the shared message never appears. Furthermore, when deleting a track or set, an error message saying “Internal server error” may appear. The track or set is still deleted. Should you find any other problems, please let me know.

SC Uplet 1.9 Released, A Must-Have For All Users

SC Uplet version 1.9 is here. This is one of those minor releases you don’t want to miss (no I didn’t take a course in marketing speech). It is mostly a bug fix release, and this time around it’s bugs that would actually prevent you from using parts of the application. There was also an issue preventing the automatic update check from working unless you had explicitly disabled and re-enabled it. So really, it’s a good idea to update to 1.9.

There are also some usability improvements. You can now change the default sort order for the “My Tracks” and “My Sets” dialogs between date and title. These dialogs now also have context menus which provides another way of opening and deleting tracks and sets. And last but not least, these two dialogs now load quite a bit faster, especially if you have a lot of items.

As always you can download the latest version on the project page. This version should be the most stable one yet, but I don’t cloud my sounds enough to run into every little corner case. If you do and find more problems, please contact me. Thanks!

SC Uplet 1.8 Released With Minor Bug Fixes And A Mac Build

I just published SC Uplet version 1.8. This is a first shot at providing a version for Apple Mac OS X, so feedback is more than welcome (contact me here). The documentation provides installation instructions, and itself has undergone some modernization and can now be accessed right from the app itself. There were also some under-the-hood changes to touch up on some minor bugs and to improve the user experience for the new Mac version. And in case more bug spray is needed SC Uplet now checks for updates on start-up, which you can control from the new Preferences dialog box.

If you use SC Uplet on a regular basis, please consider making a donation. My audio upload service for Twitter, called TwUp, provides a handy PayPal button you can use. And with that out of the way, head over to the project page to download the new version.

SC Uplet 1.7 Released, Contains 2 New Features And Over 30 Minor Enhancements

I just put a somewhat experimental update to SC Uplet online. We’re now at version 1.7. New and noteworthy are the ability to work with sets and the option for Pro plan users to disable comments on their tracks. Both of these features are experimental in that they could do with more testing. Please start by adding tracks to new sets before you jump in and alter your multi-digit-number-of-tracks set. As always, your feedback is welcome. Check the contact page.

Besides these new features there is a slew of smaller enhancements and bug fixes. The changelog, found in README.txt, lists most of them. In general, the application should simply be easier and more intuitive to use. It might even be a tick faster.

That’s about it. Head over to the project page and give it a spin!

SC Uplet Version 1.6 Released, Adds Sorting Ability To The My Tracks Dialog

I am pleased to announce that SC Uplet version 1.6 is now available. Follow this link to download this new release, which includes a number of usability improvements and bug fixes.
Most notably, the “My Tracks” dialog now lets you sort your tracks by clicking the column headers. The dialog also got two new columns: Date and Length. The main window also received a minor re-style and now allows you to open the permalink for an uploaded track simply by hitting the Enter key. On top of all that, SC Uplet now ships as a native Windows executable file, though you’ll still need to have Java installed to run the application. You also don’t need any external DLL-files anymore.
Consult the included README.txt file for a full list of changes.

I was also alerted to some problems with the payment and activation system for those with a paid SoundCloud plan. These issues have been resolved as well. No data was lost in the process. Should you have any further concerns, please drop me a line.

SC Uplet 1.5 Released

SC Uplet version 1.5 has been released. This version shows your username in the title bar, asks for your confirmation if you select a file and try to close the program, and improves some GUI elements. This release also contains various minor fixes and tweaks, including the upgrade to Java 1.7. Nothing hugely spectacular, but still worth grabbing. As always, download the new version here.
