Tolk: Screen Reader Abstraction Library

Tolk is an opensource screen reader abstraction library that lives on GitHub. You can download the latest version from AppVeyor.

Tolk provides a common interface that allows developers to output text through the most popular screen readers for Windows. An auto-detection mechanism is built-in so that you don’t need to worry about whether a screen reader is running; whether it supports only speech, only braille or both; how to talk (or tolk) to it; and what it returns if something goes wrong… Phew. Consult the README for details.

The following screen readers are supported:

  • NVDA
  • JAWS
  • Window-Eyes
  • SuperNova
  • System Access
  • ZoomText
